JUSTIN ROBERTSON

Showbiz is fickle, but for 35 years, Justin Robertson has thrived on its ever-shifting landscape. Emerging from Manchester's Eastern Bloc records, he swiftly made his mark in the city's acid house scene. Justin's refusal to be boxed in musically led to global recognition, with remixes for Erasure, Happy Mondays, and Bjork.

It all began in Manchester, where Justin emerged from behind the counter of the legendary Eastern Bloc records, swiftly establishing himself as a fixture in the city's nascent acid house scene. Fuelled by a deep-seated love for music, he honed his craft as a DJ, captivating audiences at some of Manchester's most iconic venues and promoting legendary nights like Spice with Greg Fenton and Most Excellent.

In the early 2000s, Justin embarked on a solo journey, working under various production aliases like Revtone and Deadstock 33s, each project pushing the boundaries of sound and creativity.

Nor has his remix work shown any sign of slowing up. The list is ridiculously long, but perhaps Justice, Noel Gallagher, Steve Mason, New Order, Paul Weller, Andrew Weatherall and PBR Streetgang stand out. He has collaborated with Daniel Avery, Brix Smith, Ashley Beedle and Ernest Ranglin to name but a tiny handful and releases new music an impressively steady rate. His next EP for Pamela records is set to be one of the releases of 2024.

Not confining himself to the club, festival or happening, Justin can also be found on the airwaves. He produces and presents two much loved shows for Soho Radio, alternating monthly between “The Rotating Institute”, which focuses on electronic music for the dancefloor from the past, present & future and “The Temple of Wonders”, a wildly eclectic show of dub, psych, global funk and reggae.

But Justin's talents extend far beyond the realm of music. A multifaceted artist, he has showcased his visual art in sold-out exhibitions across Europe and collaborated with prestigious institutions like the Tate Modern. His debut novel, 'The Tangle,' received critical acclaim and has been optioned for television adaptation, while his upcoming projects promise to captivate audiences with their blend of folk horror and sci-fi.

When not engaged in his own work Justin somehow finds time to lend his experience and expertise to other projects. These have included the scoring of short films, soundtracking fashion shows, a music consultant to successful hospitality venuesand designing t-shirts which feature his artwork, all of which have quickly sold out.

Justin Robertson is a restless polymath always searching for new adventures. Enjoy the trip. Justin lives with 3 dogs and a vast collection of hats in Greater London.
